Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026. Publisher: 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, United States. Contact for privacy matters: [email protected].
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
Newsmanship (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is a digital news publication operated by 24World Media (“the publisher”). This policy explains what personal information the site collects when you visit, read, contact us or subscribe, why we collect it, how long we keep it, who it is shared with and the choices and rights you have. It applies to this website only. It does not apply to third-party websites linked from our reporting, whose own policies govern your visit there. By using the site you accept the collection described here; where the law gives you the right to refuse or withdraw consent, this policy tells you how.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address and message you submit. When you subscribe to updates, we collect the email address you provide. When an advertiser or partner writes to us, we keep the correspondence and contact details given. We ask only for what a working reply requires.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the site and the services behind it record technical information when pages are requested: internet protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited, time and duration of visit and similar diagnostic data. This information is used to deliver pages, keep the site secure, understand which sections readers use and improve performance. It is not used to build advertising profiles of individual readers by Newsmanship itself.
Cookies and similar technologies. The site uses cookies that are necessary for it to function, including security, load-balancing and remembering basic preferences. Where analytics or advertising services are active, they may set their own cookies as described in sections 5 and 6. Your browser lets you block or delete cookies; blocking necessary cookies may break parts of the site, while blocking optional cookies does not affect your ability to read.
Information we do not collect. The site offers no reader accounts, and registration is closed. We do not ask for passwords from readers, payment details, government identifiers, precise location or health information, and you should never send us such material except where a story tip genuinely requires context, in which case section 8 applies.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to: operate, maintain and secure the site; publish and improve our journalism, including understanding which sections and formats readers value; reply to messages, tips, correction requests and service enquiries; send updates to readers who subscribed, and only to them; administer advertising and business relationships; and meet legal obligations. We do not use reader information to make automated decisions about individuals that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Legal bases
Where data-protection law requires a lawful basis, we rely on: your consent, for subscriptions and optional cookies, which you may withdraw at any time; our legitimate interests in operating a secure, readable news site and answering correspondence, balanced against your rights; performance of a contract, where a business relationship exists; and legal obligation, where the law requires retention or disclosure.
5. Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to measure readership in aggregate: how many people read a story, which sections grow, where readers arrive from. Analytics data is used in aggregate and is not sold. Where a third-party analytics provider processes data on our behalf, it does so under its own terms and this policy’s limits, and we choose providers whose practices are consistent with the commitments here. You can limit analytics collection through your browser’s cookie controls or recognised opt-out tools.
6. Advertising
Advertising on the site is sold and administered by the publisher as described on our Advertise page. Advertising placements may be served with the help of third-party technology, which can set cookies and measure delivery (for example, that an advertisement was displayed). Newsmanship does not sell readers’ personal information, does not hand mailing lists or message contents to advertisers and does not tell advertisers who contacted the newsroom. Advertisers receive campaign delivery summaries, not reader identities.
7. Sharing and disclosure
We share personal information only in these circumstances: with service providers who process it on our instructions to run the site (hosting, security, delivery and similar functions), bound to use it only for that purpose; where required by law, court order or a lawful request we judge valid, in which case we disclose only what is required; to protect the safety, rights or property of readers, sources, staff or the public; and in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the publisher, subject to this policy’s commitments travelling with the data. Confidential source material receives the additional protection described in section 8 and is never part of any commercial sharing.
8. Story tips and source protection
Material sent to the newsroom is handled as journalism, not marketing data. We do not sell tipsters’ details, do not disclose a confidential source’s identity outside the reporting team working on the story and do not confirm or deny source identities to enquirers. If you tell us your terms (on the record, background or off the record) before sending substance, we honour them. Published stories do not identify confidential sources. Where a tip contains sensitive personal information about third parties, we assess publication against our Code of Ethics and the public interest, and we minimise what is published to what the story genuinely needs.
9. Retention
Contact messages and correspondence are kept as long as needed to handle the matter and maintain a reasonable newsroom record, after which they are deleted or archived without personal detail where the record no longer needs it. Subscription addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or the list is closed, and are then removed. Technical logs are kept for a limited period for security and diagnostics and then rotated out. Business records are kept as long as the relationship and applicable law require.
10. Security
The site is served over encrypted connections and maintained with current software, access controls and a least-privilege approach to newsroom systems. No reader accounts exist, which removes a whole class of risk. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information sent over the internet. If we become aware of a breach affecting reader personal information, we will act promptly to contain it and will notify affected readers and regulators where the law requires.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to receive a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its use, to withdraw consent and to complain to a data-protection authority. Readers under the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar laws have the right to know, delete and opt out of sale; we do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. To exercise any right, write to [email protected] with enough detail for us to find your information. We reply within the time the applicable law allows, and we do not charge for a reasonable request. You will never be treated worse as a reader for exercising a right.
12. Children
The site is a general news publication not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age where consent is required in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. International readers
The publisher is based in the United States, and information is processed there and in the places our service providers operate. Data-protection law differs by country; where your local law gives you stronger rights, we respect them as described in section 11 regardless of where processing occurs.
14. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the site, the law or our services change. Material changes are reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page, and continuing to use the site after a change constitutes acceptance where the law permits. Questions, requests and complaints about privacy: 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, United States, or [email protected].
15. Technical and organisational measures in detail
Access to the systems that run this site is limited to the people who need it, protected by strong authentication, and reviewed as the newsroom changes. Software is kept current, security patches are applied as they become available, and the site is monitored for unauthorised access attempts and malware. Backups are maintained so that the publication and its records can be restored after a technical failure; backups are access-controlled on the same basis as the live systems. Staff and contractors who handle reader messages or source material are expected to treat it as confidential journalism, and access given for a task ends with the task.
16. Cookies in detail
Necessary cookies support security, load balancing and the basic functioning of pages and forms. Preference cookies, where used, remember display choices you make. Analytics cookies, where active, help us count readership in aggregate and expire according to the provider’s defaults. Advertising cookies, where a campaign uses them, measure delivery and frequency. You can control all of these through your browser settings and, where offered, through site-level choices; refusing optional cookies never removes your access to reporting. A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser; it is not a program, cannot carry viruses and cannot give us access to your device beyond the information described in this policy.
17. Data protection by role
24World Media is the controller of reader personal information described in this policy. Service providers act as processors on our instructions. Where a provider is located outside your jurisdiction, transfers are made using the safeguards that applicable law requires, and the commitments in this policy (no sale of reader data, no disclosure of source material, purpose limitation) apply regardless of geography. If you are unsure who controls a particular piece of information you sent us, ask at [email protected] and we will tell you plainly.
18. Your messages are journalism, not marketing data
It is worth restating outside the legal sections: the contact form is a newsroom instrument. We do not mine tips for marketing lists, do not profile tipsters and do not retain message content for advertising purposes. If you wrote to us about a story, your address is used to answer you about that story. Readers who subscribe separately to updates receive updates; the two lists are not merged, and unsubscribing from one has no effect on correspondence about the other.
