This holiday season, the most-wanted gifts may be powered by artificial intelligence. Apple, Amazon and NVIDIA have all set October and November release dates for new AI devices — from a 299 dollar smart home display to laptops that run powerful AI models locally, no cloud subscription required.

What is coming and when

Apple announced HomeView on October 13, a 7-inch smart display with facial recognition and an AI-upgraded Siri assistant, according to reports. The device recognises up to six household members, manages lights, locks and cameras, and handles FaceTime calls, music and photos. Preorders are open in the United States, with sales beginning November 13, at a starting price of 299 dollars. Apple said the device will not be sold in the European Union for now. Amazon’s new Alexa tablet lineup ships in the United States today, October 14: the 12 Pro at 499.99 dollars, the Tablet 11 at 329.99 dollars and the Tablet 8 at 229.99 dollars, according to reports. The tablets run Android with the Google Play store and include Alexa+ free for Prime members, while shoppers without Prime pay 19.99 dollars a month for full access. The devices are also sold at Best Buy and Target.

NVIDIA’s RTX Spark laptops go on sale Friday, October 16, with up to 128 GB of unified memory designed to run AI models locally instead of in a data center, according to reports. Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra, one of the first machines built on the platform, starts at 2,599 dollars and ships the same day.

How to shop smart

For budget gift-hunters, Amazon’s 229.99 dollar Tablet 8 is the cheapest entry point into AI-assisted devices. Apple households may find the 299 dollar HomeView the more natural fit, since it ties into iPhones and Apple’s services. Power users and creators are the audience for RTX Spark laptops — though shoppers should know the headline 128 GB memory figure belongs to the top configurations, not the entry models.

A few things are worth knowing before buying. Amazon charges an extra 20 dollars to remove lockscreen ads on the cheaper tablets, according to reports. And voice is becoming the main interface for the gadgets we buy, which makes the quality of each company’s assistant the real differentiator — not just the hardware specs.

It is also worth remembering that this technology is still maturing. Anthropic recently disclosed that its AI model filed a false tip with Philadelphia police, a reminder that AI systems can still behave unpredictably. For shoppers, that means buying into a platform with long-term support, not just a shiny device.
